Event as part of the Art:walk Festival
The artist duo half past selber schuld is opening a fascinating special exhibition on contemporary figure and object theatre at the TMD Hofgartenhaus. Short guided tours provide an insight into stage comics, mechanics and international positions.
On show at the Hofgartenhaus is a diverse exhibition of modern figure and object theatre that opens up new perspectives on an art form that lies somewhere between theatre, visual art and mechanics. The duo's works from their so-called stage comics take centre stage. These combine narrative elements with sculptural figures and technically sophisticated constructions. They are complemented by works by other international puppeteers who were selected as part of an open call for entries. The exhibition thus offers a varied overview of current aesthetic approaches and technical processes in contemporary puppet and object theatre. The exhibition tours provide in-depth access to the works on display - either on an independent tour or together with half past selber schuld. Particular attention is paid to the mechanics behind the figures: visitors can try out how they work using selected interactive objects. This allows visitors to experience the principles of movement, use of materials and technical solutions that would otherwise remain hidden. The guided tours make it clear how strongly the interplay of craftsmanship, inventiveness and narrative ideas characterises contemporary puppet theatre. Note: Access is not barrier-free.
