Event as part of the Art:walk Festival
The HafenKunstKino is showing a tribute to Günther Uecker for the Art:walk Festival. At Platz der Medien, film screenings will commemorate the artist, who himself once conceived this place as a cinema in urban space. Outdoor: Free admission without AWF ticket.
For the Art:walk Festival, the HafenKunstKino is dedicating a tribute to Günther Uecker to mark the first anniversary of his death. A film programme will be shown at Platz der Medien, which is also known as Uecker-Platz in public parlance. Hardly any other place in Düsseldorf stands so directly for the connection between art, the city and the public, which characterised Uecker's work and thinking. The square was originally created by Günther Uecker himself - with the idea of creating a place for open-air film screenings. This vision has lived on since October 2018 with the HafenKunstKino, which regularly presents changing programmes on the square and consciously brings film into the urban space. The homage picks up on this origin and combines location, history and projection to create a silent, dignified commemoration. The HafenKunstKino thus ties in with Uecker's idea of not closing off art, but making it openly accessible - in the centre of the city and in exchange with its audience. In the context of the Art:walk Festival, Uecker-Platz will once again become what it was always intended to be: a public space for experiencing art and film together, characterised by remembrance, presence and a view of an artistic legacy that has an impact far beyond Düsseldorf.
