Celebrate the Japanese culture festival on the city beach with us!
On Saturday, May 24, the art and culture beach on the Tonhallenufer will be transformed into a stage for Japanese culture and joie de vivre.
The Japanese community in Düsseldorf invites you - with live music, shows, dancing, tea, kimono and much more, right up to the grand finale: the spectacular fireworks display on the Rhine.
4:00pm: Japanese tea ceremony to join in
The group URASENKE TANKOKAI DÜSSELDORF presents the traditional Japanese tea ceremony on the beach stage.
Afterwards, tea master SÔETSU MUKAI invites three groups of 6 people each to enjoy a bowl of tea. A donation is requested to support the event.
5:30pm: Kimono show
Master YOKO SAWA and ETSUKO MUKAI present the art of kitsuke - the traditional and stylish dressing of a kimono - on the beach stage. The show provides insights into an elegant cultural technique in which fabric, form and movement interact harmoniously.
8:00pm: MURASAKI WAVES - Japanese City Pop live
MURASAKI WAVES from Düsseldorf and Meerbusch bring the sound of Japan from the 70s and 80s to the stage: funk, jazz and pop - colorful, danceable and full of nostalgia.
City Pop was created at the time of the Japanese economic miracle and combines western influences with a touch of big city romance. MURASAKI WAVES take up this style with a brass section, synthesizers and great attention to detail.
The eight-member band - with Japanese roots and plenty of stage experience - delivers an energetic live experience between retro sound, summer flair and guaranteed dancing.
