Event as part of the Art:walk Festival
The tour Jazz: Düsseldorf/Palermo leads through the exhibition on the history of jazz and music in Düsseldorf. Artist Nils-Simon Fischer provides insights into the musical connections between Düsseldorf and Palermo.
As part of the Art:walk festival, the Stadtmuseum Düsseldorf is inviting visitors to take a tour of the exhibition Jazz: Düsseldorf/Palermo, focussing on the musical connections between the two cities. The tour will be accompanied by Nils-Simon Fischer. He will provide insights into the historical, social and artistic contexts of jazz - from its arrival in Germany in the 1920s, through the period of oppression under National Socialism, to the new beginning after 1945, when jazz became an audible sign of freedom. The exhibition brings together legendary jazz images by important artists such as Konrad Klapheck and Alessandro Bazan and combines painting, graphics and photography with musical instruments as well as video and audio works. The result is a multi-layered jazz story that shows Düsseldorf and Palermo as vibrant music cities and a lively approach to Düsseldorf's jazz and music history. (Source: Art:walk Festival)
