The modernist understanding of the image was fixated on opticality: the image only addresses the eye of the beholder.
A completely different view emerged from the minimalist and post-minimalist experiments: the realisation that every picture has a material basis and that the picture carrier, even if it is as flat as a sheet of paper, is inevitably a material object in real space. In this way, the sense of touch and the sense of space are addressed alongside the eye. The three Dutch artists Nelleke Beltjens, Gerda Kruimer and Zaida Oenema have created an internationally orientated artist project in which these two views are understood as complementary perspectives. The exhibitions take place in different line-ups, this time also featuring Kim Habers and Annesas Appel. (Source: d:Art/Cultural Office)
