Travelling by train

Düsseldorf main station

Düsseldorf Central Station is well connected. Around 1,200 local and long-distance trains stop here every day. The station is fully accessible without steps. The main concourse and the platforms have tactile guidance strips.

DB Information 
The DB Information desk is located in the entrance hall on Konrad-Adenauer-Platz. It has a loop system for people with hearing impairments. It is always open.
DB Reisezentrum 
The DB Reisezentrum is accessible to all. It has an accessible call system. It has tactile guide strips and an accessible counter.
Bahnhofsmission 
The Bahnhofsmission is located in the connecting corridor between platforms 11/12 and 13/14.
Disabled car parking spaces
There are 3 disabled car parking spaces at Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz. Access is via Ludwig-Erhard-Allee.
Disabled toilet
The disabled toilet is located in the cross-passage between platforms 12 and 13. 
Lifts
Lifts to the underground are situated on both sides of the main passageway. They are located between exits 7 and 9, level with the Travel Centre.
Boarding aids
Boarding aids are available on all platforms.

Travelling by bus and train in Düsseldorf

Rheinbahn operates in Düsseldorf and the surrounding area. There are around 20 city and tram routes and around 120 bus routes.

High-platform light rail
In Düsseldorf, some underground trains run in tunnels, whilst others run at ground level. The underground trains have retractable steps. Many stations have high platforms. High platforms allow step-free access. This is always the case in tunnels. On high platforms, the gap between the train and the edge of the platform is no more than 8 cm. Underground stations with lifts are marked on the Rheinbahn network map. Above-ground high platforms with ramps are also marked.
Low-floor trams and light rail
The front door is suitable for wheelchair users. The front door has a door-opening button marked with a wheelchair symbol. Opposite this door, there is space for wheelchairs.
Buses
The buses are equipped with a floor-lowering function. There is space for wheelchairs on the buses. This space is located to the right of or opposite the second door. The buses have a maximum boarding height of 12 cm. All buses are fitted with folding ramps.
Services for passengers with visual impairments
On all Rheinbahn vehicles, the next stop is announced audibly. At many stops, there are tactile guide lines, grooved paving slabs and black-and-white paving. These indicate the route to the vehicle or to the exit. At many underground stations, information is provided in Braille. This is located at the start of the handrails leading to the platforms. The information indicates the direction of travel of the trains. A change in the sequence of steps is indicated by a marking ring on the handrail. The marking ring is clearly detectable by touch. The markings are based on right-hand traffic. At some stops, there is an audio passenger information system. When a button is pressed, the departure times of the next trains and buses are announced.
Assistance service for passengers with reduced mobility
The assistance service is available to anyone who needs support. The assistants help you get on and off the tram. They also help you use the ticket machines. They accompany you throughout your journey. The service is available on all Rheinbahn routes throughout Düsseldorf. The service is free of charge. All you need is a valid ticket.

Airport Düsseldorf

Registration
Register with your airline well in advance. Please specify what assistance you require. This is the only way to ensure that assistance can be provided.
Travelling by car: Parking
You can park free of charge with a blue European parking permit. This applies to the TERMINAL and LONG-TERM car parks. Exceptions are P11, P12 and the First Class parking area. There are call points in the car parks for people who need assistance. The airport recommends that wheelchair users use the disabled car parking spaces in underground car park P1. Underground car park P1 is located directly beneath the terminal. Alternatively, car parks P2 and P3 are available. 
Travelling by taxi
There are call points near entrance gates 1 and 2, as well as 11 and 12. You can get help there once you’ve got out of the taxi. 
Travelling by S-Bahn or train
S-Bahn line 11 stops directly at ‘Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal’ station. From there, you can reach the arrivals and departures halls. Assistance with boarding and alighting is available from the DB Mobility Service Centre. From ‘Düsseldorf Flughafen’ station, take the SkyTrain to the terminal. There are call points at railway stations and bus stops.
The airport terminal
Departure areas, central arrivals hall and the ‘Düsseldorf Airport’ railway station are accessible. This applies to people with walking difficulties and wheelchair users. Restaurants, toilets and baby changing facilities are accessible to wheelchair users. Wheelchairs are available to borrow free of charge. 
Disabled toilets
There are several disabled toilets in the airport building. Boarding: All passenger boarding bridges are equipped with lifts. At remote stands, boarding is possible via a liftmobile. The disability service has scissor-lift trolleys, disability transport trolleys and wheelchairs. 
Information for people with hearing impairments
Mobile Soundshuttles are available at the airport information desk. You can receive the signals with a hearing aid set to the ‘T’ or ‘MT’ position. Many staff members at the airport information desk are well versed in the needs of people with hearing impairments.

Parking facilities

There are two types of disabled car parking spaces in Düsseldorf:

• Personal disabled car parking spaces
• General disabled car parking spaces

These parking spaces are located throughout the city. The designated parking spaces may only be used with a valid disabled parking permit.
