Event as part of the Art:walk Festival
Ferment create dense electro-acoustic soundscapes in the Weltkunstzimmer. Noises, voice and experimental rhythms combine to create hypnotic structures full of tension and movement.
Ferment, the trio consisting of Frauke Berg, Julia Bünnagel and Anja Lautermann, consistently operates at the edges of musical categories with their performances. At the Art:walk Festival, they bring their perspectives to the Weltkunstzimmer, where they unfold multi-layered sound textures. The starting point is both structural approaches to "new music" and open, improvisational processes. Microphoned objects, analogue and digital instruments, electronic sounds, sampled fragments, prepared records and the human voice intertwine and create their own inner mechanics. Eccentric rhythms and fragile melodies condense into repetitive, hypnotic sound movements. Expansive noise and finely chiselled minimalism meet, grow into rough, rumbling beats or retreat into fragile atmospheres. Ferment see their music as performative research: questions of togetherness and demarcation, stability and changeability, dominance and permeability are negotiated using sound art. Each performance is a foray into new acoustic spaces and opens up different approaches - regardless of previous musical training. The result is an idiosyncratic, exciting hybrid of performance, contemporary serious music, sound experiment and collective experience. (Source: Art:walk Festival)
