The JSO has the honour of playing a concert together with the Tonhalle's "Artist in Residence", the vision string quartet.
Florian Willeitner, first violinist of the quartet, recently composed a concerto for string quartet and orchestra, which will be performed for the second time on this day after its premiere in 2025. In honour of Schumann, whose birthday would have been the following day, the JSO will open with his overture to "Hermann and Dorothea". After the interval, it's pure France: César Franck and Claude Debussy dedicate their works to antiquity and nature, the Franck pupil Mel Bonis sets an impressionistic counterpoint to Strauss' famous opera in "Salomé", and Ravel proves how wild a waltz can be in "La Valse".
