The solo exhibition of the artist Maximiliane Baumgartner (born 1986) comprises several chapters.
The third chapter focuses on Düsseldorf's Nordpark, which was built in 1937 as part of the Nazi propaganda exhibition "Große Reichsausstellung Schaffendes Volk". The construction was preceded by the violent eviction of the Heinefeld, as a result of which numerous residents, especially Roma and Sinti, were deported and murdered. In addition to the Nordpark, the entire area includes the area of the "Schlageter National Monument", which was erected in 1931, the former Nazi model settlement "Schlagetersiedlung" (today known as the Golzheimer Siedlung or "Weiße Siedlung") and the neighbouring "39er-Denkmal". The Nordpark, large parts of whose structures have been preserved, has been a listed building since 1986. To this day, however, its history has hardly been critically commented on or further contextualised on site. Baumgartner's works created for the exhibition focus in particular on the city's attempts to "democratise" the Nordpark after 1945 and pose questions about how this public space and its history were dealt with both then and now.
